The lens is the most important part of your surveillance
system.
Day-night cameras need D-N lenses with IR correction
Mega Pixel Cameras need MP Lenses.
Wide angle overviews are great for situational awareness
but for clear identification of subjects you need some "zoom"
What's is a DAY-Night Lens ?
What's IR Correction?
The Day & Night camera lens
is sensitive in the infrared region from 700nm -1000nm in wave length.
Day and infrared night images have a different focal points only a
little but enough to make an image burry. [focus shift]
If a standard Day lens is installed outdoors the image blurs and
needs to be refocused for night use.
An "IR corrected day night" lens works on the same principal you don't
have to re-focus at night under Infrared illumination
Day Night lenses adopt a specialized optical glass and coatings and have
extremely low longitudinal chromatic aberration
So you get a sharp picture day and night with no focus shift.
IR Cut Filters ? Most mid to High End cameras will also have an "IR cut filter"
option this is simply means the Infrared filter that blocks the suns
harsh rays during the day is removed at night time allow the infrared
spectrum though.
There is a quite dramatic difference in picture quality and is well
worth the extra cost, tho if your camera is in a brightly
lit area like a super-market you wont need it. On the other hand if
there no light you will need an illuminator.
Can I use any lens on any
camera ?
Yes and No some are backwards compatible, you need to match up the
sensor size with the lens [1/2 inch CCD sensor needs a 1/2 inch lens]
Fuji use this style chart to show what sensor can be usedwith
what lens
Do I need a Megapixel lens for a Megapixel camera ?
Yes. The new Mega-pixel cameras require it because of the sensor size and
resolution.
Some Old CCTV lenses will work but will be vastly under resolution.
Need a really big lens the Raymax 20-2000mm
can read a license plate at 1km away
Super-long range
